Meet the Camry

Model Strengths

Quiet ride, reputation for trouble-free ownership, great value, spacious interior, available hybrid drivetrain, legendary reliability.

The 2020 Camry comes with a choice of three different engine configurations: 4-cylinder, 6-cylinder and hybrid. The base 2.5L 4-cylinder powerplant does its job quietly and efficiently while providing 206 horsepower. Thusly equipped, the 2020 Camry is rated at 29 mpg in the city and an astonishing 41 mpg on the highway. A more powerful V6 engine is available for those who want faster acceleration and effortless passing power. The 3.5L unit powering the previous generation has been worked over and now produces 301 horsepower. In hybrid form, a 2.5L 4-cylinder engine together with 2 electric motors provides a total output of 208 horsepower. For both non-hybrid engines, power is sent to the front wheels via an 8-speed automatic transmission. The hybrid gets a continuously variable transmission. For 2020 all-wheel drive will be available, but only with the standard 2.5L 4-cylinder engine.

The Camry is available in six trims: L, LE, SE, XLE, TRD and XSE. All trims save the TRD can be had with the base 4-cylinder engine, while the XLE and XSE can also be optioned with the V6. TRD models are V6 only. The base L trim comes standard with Toyota's Entune system which features Apple CarPlay, Android Auto and Amazon Alexa and connects with phones to stream music or use apps such as a GPS link. Other standard features on the L include a backup camera, Bi-LED combination headlights, a 4.2-inch multi-information display, a 7-inch infotainment touchscreen, LED daytime running lights, remote keyless entry and Toyota's Safety Sense Plus suite of safety features and systems. LE models add 17-inch alloy wheels, an 8-way power adjustable driver's seat and a 60/40 split rear folding seat.

The SE looks a bit meaner than other Camry models thanks to 18-inch machine finished alloy wheels, a blacked out front grille, chrome exhaust tips, a rear spoiler and embossed mesh interior trim. The SE also includes automatic climate control, a leather shift knob and steering wheel and Toyota's SofTex trimmed front seats.

The XLE includes a bigger 8-inch infotainment touchscreen, full-speed dynamic radar controlled cruise control, a blind spot warning system, LED taillights, 18-inch wheels (a different design than the ones on the SE), simulated-wood interior trim, a metallic front grill, 3 USB ports, wireless device charging, heated front seats and leather seating surfaces.

While the Camry has a reputation for being comfortable, smart and utilitarian, it has never really been labeled a "sport sedan." The TRD trim looks to change that. Toyota haven't just added a set of 19-inch wheels and called it a day, however. The TRD version gets lowered by 0.6 inches, while coming with additional bracing to the body to increase chassis stiffness. In addition, large 12.9-inch brakes come standard. On the looks front, the TRD gets blacked out trim and a black front splitter, side skirts, a black pedestal rear spoiler, a rear diffuser along with, yes, 19-inch wheels. Red TRD badges add a nice contrast and the red is carried over to the interior where the Camry TRD gets contrasting red stitching and red seatbelts. The exhaust has also been changed to a TRD unit, improving the sound of the V6 engine.

Top of the line XSE models come with fancy, slightly tinted LED headlights with LED daytime running lights, 19-inch machine finish alloy wheels, textured metal interior trim, a gloss black front grill and a sport tuned suspension system.
